Clauser's clouts clip Mundelein

Sarah Clauser clubbed a 3-run homer for Warren's softball team at Mundelein on Wednesday.

Actually, the senior shortstop did it twice.

Clauser's first- and sixth-inning blasts helped the Blue Devils stave off the Mustangs 9-8 in a North Suburban Lake Division game.

Clauser went 3-for-4 with 6 RBI and 3 runs scored. She also doubled.

Alex Booker was 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored and an RBI for Warren (12-4, 3-1). Winning pitcher Kayla Hurd (RBI), Abby Anderson and Lindsay Horwitz (2 runs) each had 2 hits. Lexi Leneau laced a double.

Kaiti McKeon's RBI single in the sixth capped a 4-run inning and proved to be the difference for Warren.

Mundelein received home runs from Hillary Bunnelle (2-for-4, double, RBI) and Erin Kennelly (2-for-4, 3 RBI). Katy Durr went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Justina Doll also had a double.

Round Lake 11, North Chicago 1: Erin Steele showed some mettle.

In helping Round Lake's softball team win just its third game, a five-inning decision in North Suburban Prairie Division action, Steele socked a homer. She also singled and drove in 3 runs.

Sam Hughes added 3 hits, including a double and pair of RBI for the Panthers. Samantha Swanson smacked a triple.

Round Lake (3-15) did not make an error, while Justyne Busch played "brilliant behind the plate," coach Travin Kozel said. Socorro DelaRosa pitched 4 1/3 innings for the win.

Stevenson 15, Lake Forest 5: A day after rapping out 16 hits in a five-inning game against the Scouts, the Patriots traveled to Lake Forest and rang up 20 more.

The North Suburban Lake Division rematch lasted seven frames.

Patriots third baseman Genny Duffy went 4-for-5 with 3 doubles and a triple, driving in 3 runs for the second day in a row, while Jordan Willis was 3-for-5 with a double and 2 RBI. Stevenson (8-8, 4-2) got 2-hit games from Emma Patrash (run, RBI), Amanda Jaegers (2 runs, RBI), Rebekah Ozga (triple, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Allie Micucci (2 RBI) and Ashley Niedermayer (double, 2 RBI). Alyssa Mpistolarides also had a double.

Micucci picked up her second win in as many days.

Grant 4, Vernon Hills 2: Morgan Liles' 2-run single in the top of the sixth put the Bulldogs in front 3-2 and they added an insurance run in the seventh.

The win kept Grant (8-6) perfect in the North Suburban Prairie Division at 4-0. Liles finished with 3 RBI, while Amber Smith added a pair of hits. Winning pitcher Brie Brugioni struck out 12 and walked five.

Vernon Hills (5-12, 1-5) got a triple from Megan Meline.

Grayslake North 5, Dundee-Crown 1: Brooke Tracy doubled and singled for the Knights, and Ashley King added a triple.

Kristina Gandy struck out 10 in earning the win.

Jacobs 12, Grayslake Central 2: Claire Brennan had a double for the Rams. She also took the loss, allowing 6 earned runs over 5 innings.

Zion-Benton 8, Libertyville 2: Toni Kintzel cracked a 2-run home run and was 2-for-3 for the host Wildcats, who fell in North Suburban Lake Division action to the Zee-Bees for the second day in a row.

Libertyville (5-9) trailed 3-0 after an inning and 4-0 after three.
