Saturday's Fox Valley roundup
The Hampshire girls soccer team claimed the championship of the Richmond-Burton tournament Saturday by beating Round Lake 4-0 and then the host team 2-0.
Natalie Starrenburg and Alex Field each recorded a goal against Round Lake while Cassie Dumoulin found the back of the net twice.
Against Richmond, Paige Palubicki and Kelsey Anderson each recorded a goal as the Whip-Purs (8-5) claimed the championship.
Haylee Moscato registered 3 saves on the day for the Whip-Purs.
Elgin Academy at St. Edward Tournament: The Hilltoppers (9-3-1) had a good showing at the St. Edward Tournament as they went 2-1-2, defeating Immaculate Conception 2-1 and St. Edward 1-0, losing to Nazareth 5-0, and tying Westminster Christian 1-1 and Willows Academy 1-1. Lauren Steimle recorded 3 goals and 2 assists on the day while Ashley Barnes added 2 goals to account for all of the Hilltoppers offense. Bianca Swegler turned away 38 shots on goal over the 5 games played.
Cary-Grove 3, Andrew 1: The Trojans (6-6) found the back of the net once in the first half and twice in the second half to earn a victory over Andrew at the Pepsi Showdown. Korey Kronforst recorded 2 goals and assisted on the third one to lead the Trojans. Lauren Harte scored the final goal of the game and Jackie Holtz added an assist. Paige Lincicum turned away 6 shots on goal.
Burlington Central 1, Kaneland 1: The Rockets (5-1-3) found themselves down 1-0 to Kaneland heading into the second half but Heather Krup converted on a penalty kick to end the game in a 1-1 draw. Alison Rodriguez recorded 5 saves in goal for the Rockets.
Crystal Lake South 2, Homewood-Flossmoor 2: The Gators (7-4-1) finished out the Pepsi Showdown with a 3-1-1 record as they tied No. 6 seed Homewood-Flossmoor on the final day of tournament play. Ashley Ross and Kali Loescher recorded goals for the Gators while Vivian Qian added an assist. Elizabeth Quinn and Beth McGinn combined for 8 saves.
Dundee-Crown 0, Oswego East 0: The Chargers (4-5-3) shut out Oswego East, but were unable to find the back of the net for a 0-0 draw. Deanna Libricz recorded 8 saves in goal for the Chargers.
Wheaton North 1, Huntley 0: The Red Raiders (13-2) lost their second consecutive game as they fell to Wheaton North in the final day of the Pepsi Showdown Tournament. The Falcons scored within the final 2 minutes of play on a ball that was not cleared out of the Red Raiders zone. Sara Hoffman recorded 1 save in the first half while Kaytlyn Owens finished the second half in goal.
