Saturday's Fox Valley roundup

Kirk Hanselman had a double and 5 RBI Saturday as Dundee-Crown took an early lead and never looked back in an 8-2 Fox Valley Conference baseball win at Grayslake North.

Nick Spagnola added 2 RBI for the Chargers (9-7-1, 6-2).

Chris Sailor (2-3) earned the victory on the mound as he pitched a complete game, giving up 10 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 3.

Streamwood 9, Schaumburg 4: The Sabres (9-4) earned a nonconference victory over Schaumburg on the road as they built a 7-0 lead after two innings of play. Shawn Jordan (2-for-4, 3B) led the Sabres with 3 runs batted in while Nate Pearson and Mike Diebold (3B) also went 2-for-4 at the plate. Josh Harris went the distance on the mound throwing a complete-game while registering 4 strikeouts and scattering 11 hits.

Cary-Grove 11, Woodstock 9: The Trojans (8-7, 4-3) found themselves down 9-1 after three innings of play, but made a comeback to earn this Fox Valley Conference victory. Michael Vilardo hit 2 home runs while Chris Waylock and Tyler Lau each added a home run to lead the Trojans offensively. Grey Bozeman (1-0) earned his first victory on the mound.

Elgin drops two to Hoffman Estates: The Maroons (1-8) fell in the opener 9-3 and then 9-1 in Game 2 in this nonconference doubleheader. Jake Meyer (0-2) and D.J. Riggio (0-3) each suffered a loss on the mound. Alex Doty and Andre Higdon each tallied 2 hits in Game 2 while Olmos Jose added an RBI double.

Westminster Christian sweeps IMSA: The Warriors pounded out 28 hits on the day as they easily handled IMSA 14-0 in Game 1 and 12-2 in Game 2 of a nonconference doubleheader. Kevin Elder hit his first home run of the season and added 2 RBI in the opener while Joe McGannon went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI of his own to lead the Warriors. In Game 2, Dylan Scully drove in 3 runs while going 2-for-3 at the plate and Elder drove in a run while going 3-for-4 with a triple. Ben Stevenson and Ryan Perez each earned a victory on the mound.

Kaneland 16, Hampshire 15: Hampshire scored 5 runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 15-8 lead, then surrendered 8 runs in the bottom of the inning and lost this nonconference game. Kaneland's go-ahead run was unearned and scored off 1 of Hampshire's 7 errors in the game. Ryan Burke was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and 3 RBI for the Whip-Purs, who had an early 10-1 lead in the game. Nick Holze was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, Luke Wians had a double and 2 R\BI and Ron Laramie added a triple. Burke took the loss for Hampshire (5-7), allowing 1 hit and striking out two in his 2/3 of an inning pitched.

Huntley 15, CL Central 1: Phil Pupillo homered, doubled and had 6 RBI and Matt Morin tossed a five-inning 3-hitter to lead Huntley (12-1, 6-0) to a Fox Valley Conference win. Carlos Alvarez, Tom Crohan (3-for-4, 4 RBI) and Jake Perkins added doubles for the Red Raiders.
