St. Francis wraps up SCC Blue crown

It wasn't how it started but how St. Francis finished - as the winner of the inaugural Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division championship.

Saturday in Aurora, St. Francis (11-13, 7-1) beat Marmion 51-34 to take the title. The Spartans trailed 14-6 after a quarter, then outscored the Cadets 25-10 over the middle quarters and 20-10 in the fourth.

Sophomore Ryan Coyle scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead St. Francis, which took its only conference loss Feb. 5 at Marian Central. Mark Schmitt scored 10 points for St. Francis. Mark Peters led Marmion (16-9, 5-3) with 10 points.

Glenbard East 76, West Aurora 49: Now one win away from a perfect DuPage Valley Conference record, in Aurora Glenbard East (23-1, 13-0) got 15 points from both Zach Miller and Johnny Hill and 14 with 14 rebounds from Lee Skinner. West Aurora (11-14, 6-7) was led by Tyrone Carey's 11 points. Glenbard East concludes its regular season Wednesday at Wheaton North.

Naperville North 58, Wheaton North 52: Joe McNicholas scored 17 points, Jovonn Griffin added 11 and James O'Schaughnessey scored 10 in the host Huskies' DVC win. Wheaton North (8-17, 3-10) was led by Matt Matosian and Jordan Wayhart with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Naperville Central 59, West Chicago 51: Despite a game-high 23 points from West Chicago's Charles Jacques, the Redhawks (15-10, 7-6) won behind Mike Schremp's 14 points, Nick Linne with 12 and Matt Neufeld with 10.

Wheaton Warrenville South 52, Glenbard North 50: Will Dolatowski's 14 points headed the host Tigers' DVC win. Greg McAndrew added 11 points and Reilly O'Toole 10 for WW South (18-7, 9-4). Glenbard North (11-12, 5-8) got 15 points from Reggie Davis, 12 from James Fleming and 10 from Alex Smith.

Waubonsie Valley 61, Dundee-Crown 48: Waubonsie Valley (8-16) won its third straight game, beating the nonconference Chargers in Aurora. Alex Edmondson scored 13 points and Jakobi Johnson had 10 for the hosts.
