Zion-Benton handles Grant

After losing to Grant by three points earlier this season in the Deerfield tournament, Zion-Benton's girls basketball team came to Grant's court Wednesday night to seek different results.

And the Zee-Bees got them, defeating the Bulldogs 51-32 in the teams' North Suburban Conference crossover.

"It was an exciting way to end our year, going into the playoffs," Zion-Benton assistant coach Frank Mattucci said.

Juanita Robinson led the Zee-Bees by scoring 23 points, grabbing 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Octavia Crump added 15 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals. Mattucci also gave credit to the defense, including Carneesha Johnson and Dominikque Williams, who held Grant's Heather Chapman and Donnie Taggart to 3 points apiece.

"It was a nice turnaround for the ladies. Last year we were 6-22," Mattucci said of Zion-Benton, which finished the regular season 18-8. "The coaching staff is really proud of the team."

Mundelein 50, Round Lake 41: Brooke Evans scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs in the North Suburban crossover.

Leading the Panthers scoring was Chanae Brown, who scored 21 points.

Marian Catholic 75, Carmel Catholic 34: Double-digit performances by Valerie Finnin, Casey Davis and Emily Kobel helped give visiting Marian Catholic the victory.

Finnin and Davis each scored 16 points, and Kobel added 15 points for Marian. Jackie Meier led Carmel's scoring with 9 points.
