Warren well enough to edge Lake Forest

Both the Warren and Lake Forest girls basketball teams missed some key starters Tuesday night, but Warren found a way to earn the victory, defeating the Scouts 35-30.

Warren played without Ellie Gallo, who was out with a stomach virus, and Morgan Garrett, who had ankle surgery last week. Caelen Rottman did not play for Lake Forest.

Jessica Prince came up big for Warren in the North Suburban Lake Division game, scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Alexis Leneau added 9 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils (13-13, 5-6).

Jordan Majka led the Scouts scoring with 10 points.

Grant 52, Lakes 35: Three Bulldogs scored in double digits in the North Suburban Prairie game.

Heather Chapman and Kassie Stimpson led Grant (12-13, 6-4) with 16 points apiece, and Donnie Taggart added 10.

Asja Triplett paced Lakes (8-15, 3-8) with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

"The mind set was not good," Lakes coach Pete Schneider said. "Grant killed us on the boards, as we did none or little boxing out.

"We did not put any pressure on their guards, and Heather Chapman and Donnie Taggart had free roam in the paint and in controlling the boards. Grant works hard, and they are a solid team. They took us out of anything we tried to do."

Vernon Hills 54, North Chicago 40: Meri Bennett-Swanson contributed 17 points, including 9 of 10 from the free throw line, in the Cougars' North Suburban Prairie finale.

Jessica Schwartz added 11 points for Vernon Hills (15-9, 10-2), and Abby Springer had nine on a trio of 3-pointers.

Grayslake Central 68, Deerfield 49: The Rams improved to 17-6 with the nonconference win.

Rebekah Llorens led Grayslake Central with 22 points. Alex Scarbro scored 15 points, and Skyler Jessop added 12.

Zion-Benton 73, Mundelein 35: Octavia Crump had 18 points and 7 rebounds for the host Zee-Bees in the North Suburban Lake Division game.

Zion-Benton (16-6, 8-3), which had lost four of its last five, jumped out to a 12-0 lead and didn't allow Mundelein (13-14, 3-9) a field goal in the opening quarter. The Zee-Bees were up 38-13 at halftime.

Juanita Robinson added 12 points, 5 steals and 5 assists for Z-B, while Shanyell Jackson scored 11 points. Dominikque Williams contributed 9 points, 4 steals and 4 rebounds.

The Mustangs, who played without Brooke Evans, were led in scoring by Amanda Davis with 9 points.
