Lake County briefs

Evictions halted:

Lake County residents facing eviction will not be forced from their homes during the holiday season, Sheriff Mark Curran announced Thursday. The sheriff's civil process division will put such orders on hold until Jan. 4, 2010.

Lions generosity in Wauconda:

Wauconda Lions Club members Thursday donated $10,000 to the village's park system for renovation of two baseball fields off Garland Road. Lions Club President Tom Malik presented a check for the work to Nancy Burton, the director of parks and recreation. Malik said the Wauconda Lions Club is committed to local youth programs. A rededication ceremony for the baseball fields is planned for the spring.

Townships to run PACE buses:

On Jan. 1, both Barrington Township and Cuba Township will take over from the village of Barrington the running of the Barrington area's PACE bus service for seniors and people with special needs. Following the village of Barrington's announcement that it would drop support for the program in 2010, representatives from the two townships as well as the Barrington Area Council on Aging have been working since last spring on a plan to maintain it. There will be no changes to the current service when the takeover occurs.
