Waukegan regional: Today: Match 1 at 5:30 p.m.: (16) Buffalo Grove vs. (17) Warren; Match 2 at 6:30 p.m.: (8) Prospect vs. (10) Waukegan; Match 3 at 7:30 p.m.: (1) Hersey vs. Winner Match 1; Saturday: Match 4 (championship) at 2 p.m.: Winner Match 3 vs. Winner Match 2
Quick set: Mid-Suburban champion Hersey (10-0) finished ahead of Prospect (7-3) and Buffalo Grove (1-9) in the Mid-Suburban East. Hersey's closest match in the East was its 25-23, 25-23 win over Prospect. Buffalo Grove lost twice to Prospect in league play but defeated the Knights in three games at its own invite last week. Coach Nancy Lill's Huskies enjoyed one of their finest regular seasons in school history with a 32-3 record. Mike Riedy's Knights, who won 20 matches again, are coming off their championship in the BG Invite. Marianne O'Shea's Bison also gained some late-season momentum in their own invite with wins over Prospect and Palatine last Saturday.
Lake Zurich regional: Today: Match 1 at 5:30 p.m.: (15) Wheeling vs. (18) Round Lake; Match 2 at 6:30 p.m.: (7) Stevenson vs. (9) Glenbrook North; Match 3 at 7:30 p.m.: (2) Lake Zurich vs. Winner Match 1; Saturday: Match 4 (championship) at 2 p.m.: Winner Match 3 vs. Winner Match 2
Quick set: Coach Jason Kopkowski's Wheeling club is the only area representative in this regional. If the Wildcats can get past Round Lake in their opener, they'll come back an hour later and meet top-seeded Lake Zurich in a semifinal. Bianca Szafarowicz, Kelsie Jurik and Kellie Kuzmanic have been among the Wildcats' leaders on attack this fall.
Palatine regional: Today: Match 1 at 5:30 p.m.: (14) Carmel vs. (19) Highland Park; Match 2 at 6:30 p.m.: (6) Fremd vs. (12) Palatine; Match 3 at 7:30 p.m.: (3) Libertyville vs. Winner Match 1; Saturday: Match 4 (championship) at 2 p.m.: Winner Match 3 vs. Winner Match 2
Quick set: It's quite a semifinal tonight as crosstown rivals Fremd and Palatine face off for the third time. Coach Curt Pinley's Mid-Suburban West champion Vikings (23-11) suffered two of their three division losses to the Dan Gavin's Pirates. The match features a trio of future D-I players. Fremd junior Kayla Price, the MSL West co-Player of the Year, is headed to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in two years while Palatine senior Hannah Guth has committed to Seton Hall and junior Kaley Sierawski is a Jacksonville State University recruit.
Huntley sectional
Barrington regional: Today: Match 1 at 6 p.m.: (1) Cary-Grove vs. (4) Dundee-Crown; Match 2 at 7 p.m.: (2) Barrington vs. (3) Algonquin (Jacobs) Saturday: Match 3 at 1 p.m.: Winner Match 1 vs Winner Match 2;
Quick set: Coach Chris Bronke's Fillies finished the season at 15-19. "It was nice to end our season with a win (over Prospect)," said Tanya Mookerji, the Fillies libero and MSL West Co-Player of the Year. "But we were looking ahead to preparing for this regional. We saw things (against Prospect) we need to work on. We want to go as far as we can and we are all focused on that." Top-seeded Cary Grove (31-4) won the Schaumburg Invite and defeated the Fillies 25-12, 25-19 in early Septmeber. The Fillies defeated Jacobs (12-22) in a close match in mid-September at the Mother McAuley tournament.
Geneva sectional

Quick set: It's the final IHSA tournament for Elk Grove coach Joe DiSilvio, who is stepping down after the season to spend more time with his family. His Grens (20-15) won 20 matches for the sixth time in his eight seasons. Setter-outside hitter Emily Young, one of the top juniors in the area, and coach Jeanette Pancratz's Schaumburg Saxons, hope to win their opener at 5:30 p.m. and get a shot at No. 1 seed St. Charles East about an hour later.

Quick set: Hall of Fame coach Peggy Scholten is hoping her team gets to play two matches today. The Cougars are led by seniors Antoinette Schiffer and Kristin Perschon, who will play for Northwood University in Michigan. Hoffman, under coach Dan Hutton, is led on attack by Lauren LaMasse and Jada Stotts.
Addison Trail regional: Today: Match 1 at 5:30 p.m.: (15) Addison Trail vs. (18) Rolling Meadows;

Quick set: The Rosinski twins - Samantha and Jackie - and Kelly Adair lead the Rolling Meadows' attack. Coach Janet Opels' Mustangs are hoping to win their play-in match and get an opportunity to face No. 2-seeded Geneva in the tonight's third match.
Evanston sectional
Niles North regional: Today: Match 1 at 5:30 p.m.: (15) Lane Tech vs. (18) Foreman; Match 2 at 6:30 p.m.: (7) (Niles North) vs. (10) Maine West; Match 3 at 7:30 p.m.: (2) Evanston (Twp.) vs. Winner Match 1; Saturday: Match 4 at 1 p.m.: Winner Match 3 vs. Winner Match 2
Quick set: Maine West is hoping the third time is the charm against Niles North. The Warriors fell twice in two games to the Vikings in Central Suburban North play. Coach Randy Tiller's top attacker has been senior Angie Topolewicz, who began the season playing only the back row but now has 62 kills.
Class 3A Vernon Hills sectional
Regina regional: Today: Match 1 at 5:30 p.m.: (15) Regina vs. (19) vs. Sullivan; Match 2 at 6:30 p.m.: (7) Johnsburg vs. (10) Grayslake (Central); Match 3 at 7:30 p.m.: (2) St. Viator vs. Winner Match 1
Saturday: Match 4 at 6 p.m.: Winner Match 3 vs. Winner Match 2
Quick set: St. Viator pulled off a major upset when it defeated Lake Zurich in the Class 4A regional final last fall. Coach Charlie Curtin's Lions are hoping for another big postseason run this season as they drop into the Class 3A tourney. Junior Carlyn Clevenger sets the offense, often finding seniors Kelly Travalgio, Mary Calov, Kelly McConnell and Christina Brinkman or classmate Emily Leazer to put down the ball. The Lions (25-9-1), who have a school record for wins, have not faced any of the teams in this regional.
