Big Woods Church picnic:

Big Woods Church in Aurora is having a picnic and open house for Big Woods School, 3003 N. Eola Road, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. All are welcome. Come for food, fellowship, fun and to see the historic school house. Moon bouncer/games for kids. Call (630) 898-0451 or visit bigwoodschurch.org.

Panera Bread customers who donate a 12-ounce or more box of cereal will receive a free breakfast sandwich from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Sunday at area bakery-cafe locations. The goal of the "Cereal Drive to Help Fight Hunger" is to collect 5,000 boxes to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Northern Illinois Food Bank and Northwest Indiana Food Bank.

Register for fall classes:

Open registration for fall credit classes at Elgin Community College will continue until classes start, space permitting. Fall 12-week classes begin Monday and eight-week classes begin Oct. 19. Students with an ECC identification number can register online at elgin.edu/accessecc. Registration can be made in person at the registration center in Room 165 of the Student Resource Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The registration center is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students must provide proof of having met course prerequisites, if documentation is not already on file at ECC. Students with outstanding financial obligations must settle those before registering. For details, visit elgin.edu/register.

Academy collects gloves:

The Chicago Bulls/Chicago White Sox Training Academy in Lisle is having a drive to collect new and used baseball gloves that will be given to disadvantaged players in the Inner City Youth Baseball League. Gloves can be dropped off at the academy at 6200 River Bend Drive, Lisle. Each person donating a glove will receive a voucher for 15 minutes of free hitting and a chance to win autographed White Sox merchandise. The person who donates the most gloves will receive an autographed Gordon Beckham jersey, which will be presented by Beckham before the Sept. 26 game against Detroit. The collection ends Sunday. Flu shots in West Chicago:

Walgreens of West Chicago will offer seasonal flu shots from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at West Chicago Community High School, 326 Joliet St. The shot is free for those with Medicare Part B; $3 for anyone on Medicaid and older than 19; and $24.99 for those without insurance.
