Lakes nets 'biggest win'

Mandy Fischer recorded 4 kills and 5 blocks, as Lakes' girls volleyball team rallied for a 21-25, 27-25, 25-21 victory over Richmond-Burton on Thursday night.

"Biggest win in Lakes history," Eagles coach Carla Thompson said. "We put all we had on the floor tonight. There was not a girl out there that did not play her best game. Things just worked.

"We have struggled in the first two matches, but tonight we did what we should have been doing all along."

Jessie Richter, who's been battling a knee and ankle problem, contributed 2 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces and 4 assists (25-of-25 setting). Kailey Molloy dished out 10 assists on 25-of-25 setting and also notched 5 digs.

Shanna Hertz had 5 digs and 2 kills. Ashley Sodt served 2 aces and chalked 3 digs.

"This is what we have been working on since the season began," Thompson said. "Hopefully this is the start of a good season for us."

Grayslake Central d. D-C: Klaudia Basierak had 11 kills, 11 digs and 3 aces, as the Rams pulled out a 28-30, 25-15, 25-20 win over Dundee-Crown to even their record at 1-1.

Lydia Boyle added 8 kills, 9 digs and 4 aces, while Emily Anderson tallied 22 assists and 3 aces.

"It was a great match tonight," Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said. "Our girls played hard on defense and our offense clicked. We grew tonight as a program and it was great to get our first win."

New Trier d. Libertyville: The Trevians prevailed 21-25, 25-23, 25-18, despite Alanna Connors' 8 kills for the Wildcats.

Kristen Webb and McKenzie O'Brien paced Libertyville (2-2) defensively with 18 and 11 digs, respectively. Catie Steffen added 4 kills, Mackenzie Haws had 3 blocks and O'Brien served 3 aces, as well.

Libertyville got 3 kills apiece from Megan Friedman, Kaca Savatic and Paige Hopper.

"Best match of the season to date," Wildcats coach Greg Loika said.

Huntley d. Grayslake North: Brianna Leon had 3 kills and 3 digs in the Knights' 25-10, 25-13 loss.

Raquel Ness had a team-best 8 digs for North.

Marian Central d. Grant: The Bulldogs lost 25-12, 25-15, despite 3 kills apiece from Becca McMullin and Becca White.

Glenbrook South d. Stevenson: The Patriots suffered their first loss, falling 25-13, 25-23.

Rachel Baader had 3 kills and 7 digs for Stevenson (2-1), while Mackenzie Kurth registered 3 kills and 5 digs.

Baader and Amber Hughes both delivered 2 aces.
