Groups to join Fox Valley Men of Harmony for annual spring concert
Nothing keeps the Fox Valley Men of Harmony from singing their tunes - not even swine flu school closures.
Bill Miller, director of the spring show, confirmed Larkin High School's auditorium will be open for the Saturday performance. The school itself is scheduled to reopen Friday.
On Saturday, attendees can expect a night of childhood memories and classic barbershop music at the 63rd annual spring show, "See the USA."
The show will incorporate a slide show of many sites in America that relate to the songs being sung by the many quartets. The slide show will also contain Burma Shave signs.
"This will renew audience members' memories of trips they took as youngsters before super highways," Miller said.
The show will also feature an audience singalong, a raffle, and door prizes.
The musically talented groups in the show include the Barrington High School boys' quartet The Testostertones, Rush Street quartets, and to add a famine touch, the Misty River Music Makers of Geneva.
"We rehearsed with them (Music Makers) last Monday, and the combined choruses' sound on the show's finales song "America The Beautiful" sent chills down my spine," said Miller.
The men and women singing in the show began rehearsing in January.
"Our chapter quartets selected their own songs to fit the theme and practiced on their own," stated Miller. Some of the songs they will be performing include "Sentimental Journey," "Carolina in the Morning," "Rocky Mountain High," "California Here I Come," "Over the Rainbow," and "This is My Country."
The timing of this upbeat, all-ages appropriate performance couldn't be better, according to Miller.
"The show is the day before Mother's Day, which would make the perfect gift for any mom," said Miller.
The show is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. Tickets, $16 for adults and $8 for seniors and students, will be available at the door or by advance purchase. For tickets or information, call (815) 477-4837 or (630) 587-6383.
