Hear this: Warren's Hurd no-hits Lake Forest

Kayla Hurd was heard.

The Warren junior struck out 18 batters while no-hitting visiting Lake Forest, as the Blue Devils completed a sweep of a rare weekday doubleheader Wednesday.

Warren (9-10, 5-2) won the opener 10-0 in five innings and took Game 2 by an 8-0 final.

Sam Berrios was the winning pitcher in Game 1, striking out eight and allowing just 1 hit.

The hitting heroes included Lindsay Horwitz (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases); Sarah Clauser (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI, 2 stolen bases); Lauren Sullivan (1-for-1, double); Kathleen Trychta (1-for-2, triple, RBI); and Teja Bloom (double, 2 RBI).

In the nightcap, Hurd helped herself by going 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI. She also got offensive support from Alex Booker (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 stolen bases); Horwitz (2-for-3, RBI), Stephanie Youngman (1-for-2, run); and Kaiti McKeon (1-for-3, double, RBI).

Wauconda 3, Grant 2: Wauconda coach Tim Rennels learned Wednesday morning that North Chicago cancelled its season the day before, meaning the Bulldogs were immediately credited with 2 wins since they hadn't yet played their two games against the Warhawks.

Wauconda then went out and sought to avenge a 2-1 loss to Grant last week.

Wauconda got it, giving the Bulldogs 3 wins - counting the two for the North Chicago forfeits - in about a 24-hour period.

Wauconda rallied past host Grant for a 3-2 win, scoring once in the fourth on Brittany Ehmann's RBI single and twice in the fifth to go ahead.

Cara Nance had a triple for Wauconda (15-6, 3-3 North Suburban Prairie). Ehmann finished 2-for-4.

Kayla Stos improved to 8-2, striking out seven while allowing 2 walks and 7 hits in a complete-game effort.

Grant pitcher Brie Brugioni had 13 strikeouts in suffering the loss.

St. Viator 4, Carmel 0: Julie Sweeney did it all for the Lions in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.

Sweeney pitched a 5-hitter with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk, while at the plate she doubled, tripled and knocked in a pair of runs.

Rachel Tack suffered the loss for the Corsairs.

Prairie Ridge 12, Grayslake Central 0: The Rams did not have a hit, as they fell to 4-18 and 0-4 in the Fox Valley Fox Division.

Grayslake North 3, Crystal Lake Central 0: Samantha Myers had 12 strikeouts for the Knights in the Fox Valley Fox Division game.

Grayslake North (6-8, 2-2) was led offensively by Brooke Tracy (2-for-4).
