Walk-off walk wins it for Libertyville
The Lake Zurich and Libertyville baseball teams played a one-run thriller Monday.
The two North Suburban Lake Division teams repeated the drama Tuesday.
This time it was Libertyville prevailing 6-5 on Jon Lewis' bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh. The win avenged the Wildcats' 3-2 loss Monday.
Libertyville (13-4, 4-1) got a home run and double from Lucas Guarnaccio, while Brad Martin also had a 2-hit game. Guarnaccio knocked in three.
Mike Seefeldt also had a double for the Wildcats and earned the win in relief by pitching a scoreless top of the seventh. Joe Eichmann allowed just 1 earned run over 6 innings.
Sam Aslan (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Logan Matthews (2-for-4, 3 RBI) homered off Eichmann for Lake Zurich (14-7-1), which led 5-2 after four innings.
Chas Evans went 2-for-4, as well, for Lake Zurich.
Lake Forest 5, Mundelein 3: The Scouts avenged Monday's 13-1 loss.
Mundelein fell to 15-3 and 1-1.
Vernon Hills 3, Antioch 2: With two out and none on in the top of the seventh, the Cougars rallied for a pair of runs to stun the host Sequoits in North Suburban Prairie Division action.
Chris Argianis and P.J. Marsek both delivered two-strike hits for Vernon Hills. Nate Moraton plated the eventual game-winner on an infield error.
Jamie Manhard notched the win, allowing 1 earned run in a complete-game effort. He struck out six, walked one and allowed 5 hits. Argianis and Marsek (2 doubles, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases) each had 2 hits.
Chris Terzic suffered the tough-luck loss for Antioch (4-12), allowing only 1 earned run over 7 innings. Alex Grimm was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI for the Sequoits.
Lakes 6, Round Lake 2: Freshman Jacob Brown made his first varsity start on the mound and earned the win in the North Suburban Prairie Division game.
Paul Kukulka led the offense for Lakes (13-5, 4-0) by going 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Eric Lopez (3 runs, 3 stolen bases) and Wills Massie (double, RBI) also had a pair of hits for the Eagles.
Brown pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs while striking out five and walking one.
Round Lake (3-9, 2-4) got 2-hit games from Jeff Nicoline, Chris Rana and Anthony Guiterrez. Mike Fuller had a double.
Warren 2, Stevenson 1: The Blue Devils rallied for 2 runs in the sixth off Illinois State-recruit Brad Sorkin, who yielded only 2 hits in a complete-game effort.
Sorkin struck out nine, as the Patriots fell to 15-3 and 3-2 in the North Suburban Lake Division.
Grant 18, North Chicago 2: The Bulldogs defeated the Warhawks in North Suburban Prairie action for the second day in a row.
