Monday's Fox Valley roundup

Pitching ruled the day Monday when the Elgin and Hampshire softball teams got together for a nonconference game.

Elgin freshman Hannah Perryman and Hampshire junior Ally Kent combined to allow just 6 hits while striking out 30 in a game that ended in a 1-1 tie after 10 innings.

The two pitchers also combined for 21 walks and Elgin (5-14-1) left 22 runners on base.

"We just didn't get the clutch hit," said Elgin coach Peg Corcoran. "We left the bases loaded in 5 of the 10 innings."

Perryman allowed only singles to Tiffany Bentley and Bree Doyle and struck out 19. Kent allowed a double to April Harwood and three singles and struck out 11.

"It was a great well-pitched game tonight," said Hampshire coach Ken Bram.
