Larkin 9, St. Charles North 4: Jon Meidel (1-1) held the North Stars to 4 earned runs on 5 hits and struck out six in 5 innings, and Brandon Anderson pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief to lift the Royals in an Upstate Eight Conference game in Elgin. Larkin (11-10, 6-4) trailed 4-2 before erupting for 7 runs in the bottom of the fifth. Meidel led the way with two doubles.
"It was a well-played game for us," Larkin coach Matt Esterino said of his team's errorless defense. "Now we have to go back to North (today)."
Neuqua Valley 7, Elgin 0: Elgin managed only 2 hits off Wildcats' starter Mike Skowronski and Neuqua rallied for 6 runs in the bottom of the fourth against Elgin pitcher Mike Stackowiak to win this Upstate Eight Conference game in Naperville. Elgin dropped to 0-12, 0-7.
St. Edward 5, Montini 2: Riley Coleman (7-0) held the Broncos to 0 earned runs and struck out eight in a complete-game, Suburban Catholic Conference victory at Wing Park in Elgin. David Hoebbel went 1-for-3 with a home run, and Coleman and Jordan Torres each doubled for St. Edward (12-9, 5-3).
Cary-Grove 10, Jacobs 6: Senior pitcher Matt Nelsen improved to 6-0 with a complete-game, 6-hitter and junior Chris Waylock went 2-for-3 with a triple and a solo home run to lead the Trojans to a Fox Valley Conference (Valley) victory in Cary. Junior Eric Chandler went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and Nelsen and Nick Hammonds each doubled for Cary-Grove (13-6-1, 1-1). Junior Ben Albano gave Jacobs a 2-0 lead with a 2-run home run in the second inning, and sophomore Brett Kale hit a 3-run shot in the sixth for the Golden Eagles (9-13, 1-1).
Crystal Lake South 12, McHenry 8: Pitcher Ian Gardeck (4-0) held the Warriors to 2 earned runs and struck out 8 in 4 innings, and Craig Pagnotta homered to lead the Gators to a Fox Valley Conference (Valley) victory in Crystal Lake. Easton Kowalski doubled twice and James Vazquez tripled for Crystal Lake South (13-7, 1-1).
Woodstock 14, Dundee-Crown 4: Willy Larsen went 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run and 3 RBI, but the Chargers (3-13, 0-2) fell behind 9-3 after two innings and lost in five innings in a Fox Valley Conference (Valley) game in Woodstock.
Huntley wins twice: Senior hurler Craig Lipp improved to 4-1 by tossing a complete-game 4-hitter in a 4-0 victory over Grayslake North in a Fox Valley Conference (Fox) game in Huntley. Lipp and Tanner Funke each doubled for the Red Raiders. In the completion of a game suspended on Saturday with Huntley leading 13-0 through three innings, the Red Raiders (15-3-1, 2-0) prevailed 15-0 in five innings. Junior Rodriguez (2-0) earned the win, supported by 2 home runs from Lipp and another from Funke.
