Friday's Fox Valley roundup

Marissa Lombardo scattered 6 hits and Sara Jacobson led the offense with a double as the Jacobs softball team downed McHenry 2-0 Friday in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action.

"It was a really good game," said Jacobs coach Jeremy Bauer. "The defense did well and Marissa pitched a great game."

The Golden Eagles (8-5, 2-0) host Lake Zurich in a nonconference doubleheader at 10 a.m. today.

CL South 11, Dundee-Crown 0: The Gators (13-3, 2-0) scored 6 runs in the first inning and never looked back in this FVC Valley win. Vicki Pyan (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI), Emily Mahoney (3-for-3, 2 doubles, RBI), Kaitlin Hardie (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Liz Adams (2-for-3, 3 RBI) led the CL South offense. Freshman Sam Golf was the winning pitcher, allowing just 2 hits with 7 strikeouts. Melissa Summaria suffered the loss in the circle for the Chargers (4-8).

Cary-Grove 6, Woodstock 5 Emma Gaulke and Cary-Grove overcame 6 errors to win this FVC Valley game. Gaulke (5-4) struck out five and allowed only 3 earned runs for the Trojans (8-9, 1-1).

Waubonsie Valley 4, Larkin 3: The host Warriors scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal an Upstate Eight win from Larkin (4-9, 3-3). Corrine Wimmer had a triple and an RBI for Larkin while Lexi Smithberg and Kelsey Lodge (2B) each had RBI. Smitberg suffered the loss in the circle for the Royals, who host the Larkin Slugfest at the Elgin Sports Complex beginning at 10 a.m. today.

St. Francis 4, St. Edward 2: The Green Wave allowed 3 runs in the top of the seventh inning to lose this Suburban Catholic Conference game. St. Edward (11-6, 2-2) had only 2 hits and struck out 14 times in the loss. Losing pitcher Sarah Field drove in a run for the Wave, who also got a hit from Kristi Knott.

Huntley 7, Grayslake Central 2: Sam Clemons (11-5) struck out 10 and allowed 5 hits as the Red Raiders (12-7, 2-0) prevailed in the FVC Fox. Deana DeBosschere was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Sarah Clancy 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI and Kelsey Hagan 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Huntley.

South Elgin 9, Streamwood 0: Caitlin Stredde (3B) was one of five South Elgin hitters with 2 hits as the Storm (8-7, 4-2) rolled in the Upstate Eight. Kaitlyn Stonecipher, Kim Pierce, Lauren Vitiello (2B, 2 RBI) and Brittany Boelter (2 RBI) each had 2 hits for South Elgin. Layla Ismajal also drove in 2 runs for the Storm. Xenia Cerda (3-2) hurled her second shutout of the season. Kelsey Johnson suffered the loss for the Sabres.
