Saturday's Fox Valley roundup: Larkin, Hampshire, Graylake C. win

Justin Kalusa, Jon Meidel and Scott Harm all hit home runs as Larkin's baseball team downed Burlington Central 10-5 on Saturday to win its fifth straight game.

Brandon Anderson picked up the win in relief of Jake McCleary for the Royals (10-7). Kalusa had 3 RBI, Harm was 4-for-4 and Joe Stace had 2 hits for Larkin. Drew Stover had a double for Burlington Central (9-5).

CL South 7, Grayslake North 3: Ian Gardeck had a double and a home run and Gavin Meyer added a double as CL South (10-5) won this Fox Valley Conference crossover game. Tim Ambrose (3-0) picked up the win for the Gators.

Hampshire sweeps: The Whip-Purs (10-7) pounded out 29 hits and scored 26 runs in beating Rockford Lutheran 8-7 and 18-8 in a nonconference doubleheader. Bo Price was 2-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI in the opener and Ryan Burke added 3 hits with a triple and 2 RBI. Kent Larson (6-1) was the winning pitcher. In Game 2, James Goebbert was 4-for-5 with a double, home run and 3 RBI for the Whips while Matt Henfner was 4-for-5 with a home run and 4 RBI and Diego Bolanos had 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Jared Wienke, who was 2-for-3 with a home run and 4 RBI, picked up the win on the mound for Hampshire.

Westminster falls twice: The Warriors (8-6, 1-2) lost a Private School League doubleheader to Illiana Christian 11-7 and 6-5. Leading the Warriors in Game 1 were Mike O'Neill (2B), Steve Berglina (3-for-4, RBI), Brandon Siewert (2-for-3), Zack Holmer (RBI) and Brandon Weingartner (RBI). Kevin Elder (3-1) suffered the loss. In Game 2, O'Neill was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Siewert (2-1) took the loss.

Grayslake Central 5, Cary-Grove 4: Mark Thompson, Luke Mottashed and Kevin Adams all had doubles for Cary-Grove (9-5-1) in this FVC crossover loss. Sean Kaveny was the losing pitcher.

Streamwood 10, Schaumburg 9: Brian Brauer had 2 home runs and Tim Cohen and Sean Jordan added solo shots as Streamwood (5-5-2) prevailed in nonconference play. Brian Domokos was the winning pitcher for the Sabres.

Elgin falls twice: The Maroons (0-9) remained winless on the season, falling to Hoffman Estates 3-2 and 11-1 in nonconference play. Tom Roth had a double, triple and RBI in the opener for Elgin, and Mike Stachowiak was the losing pitcher. Dan Schneider and Chris Riggio each doubled and Adam Jozwiecz took the loss in the nightcap.

Huntley 11, Jacobs 2: Tanner Funke (4-1) was the winning pitcher and he had 3 hits as Huntley (12-1-1) rolled over Jacobs in an FVC crossover. Garrick Penrod added 2 hits including a double and 2 RBI for the Red Raiders and Craig Lipp had a grand slam home run. Phil Pupillo, Nathan Sopena and Zach Liebman each had 2 hits for Huntley.
