Fox Valley baseball roundup

Huntley senior Craig Lipp enjoyed a big day on the mound and at the plate as the Red Raiders defeated Dundee-Crown 9-0 in a Fox Valley Conference crossover game in Carpentersville on Tuesday.

On the mound, Lipp totaled 8 strikeouts without a walk in a complete-game 2-hitter that improved his record to 3-0. At the plate, the third-year varsity performer went 2-for-3 with a home run and 4 RBI to pace Huntley (10-1-1).

Jimmy Gordon went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI and Chris Klein finished 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Brendon Schumacher took the loss for Dundee-Crown (2-6-1).

Cary-Grove 9, Grayslake North 3: Senior pitcher Corey Bruns (2-2) held the Knights to 4 hits in 6 innings and went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI to lead the Trojans to victory in a Fox Valley Conference crossover in Cary. Catcher Luke Mottashed went 1-for-2 with a double and run driven in for the Trojans (8-4-1), who broke free from a 3-3 tie with a 6-run fifth inning.

Richmond-Burton 5, Hampshire 0: Junior pitcher Kent Larson (5-1) pitched well but endured his first loss of the season, outdueled by Rockets freshman pitcher Wojciechowski's 2-hit shutout in the Big Northern-East opener for both teams. Larson allowed 2 earned runs in 6 innings, but 5 Hampshire errors proved costly for the Whip-Purs (6-7, 0-1).

"We had more errors than we had hits, and when that happens it's really to win in this game," Hampshire coach Steve Ream said.

Marian Central 6, St. Edward 5: The Hurricanes overcame a 3-0 deficit through three innings with a 3-run fourth and a 2-run fifth to upend the Green Wave (6-6, 1-1) in Suburban Catholic Conference play. St. Edward reliever Mike Kondrath took the loss. Jon Godfrey went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and Kondrath homered and drove in a pair, but the Wave didn't put the ball in play consistently enough.

"Eleven strikeouts, six looking, spells defeat," St. Edward coach Gene Belmonte said.

Huntley senior commits: Jose "Junior" Rodriguez, a senior right-handed pitcher for Huntley, made a verbal commitment to play baseball at Simpson College in Iowa.
