Lake County briefs
Write-in winner in Gurnee:
Gurnee Village Clerk Andrew Harris has retained his post for another four years, according to unofficial results from last week's election. Harris and challenger Megan Caras ran as write-in candidates. Harris snagged 67 votes to Caras' 25. Neither Harris not Caras filed proper paperwork to land on the ballot. However, they filed with the Lake County clerk's office to be official write-in candidates.
One injured in accident:
A 55-year-old Lake Bluff man has been charged with multiple citations for cutting in front of a motorcycle Sunday near Libertyville, officials said. Joshua Ban, of Lake Bluff, rolled his 2000 Lexus through a stop sign while turning onto Casey Avenue from Almond Road, said Sgt. Christopher Thompson of the Lake County Sheriff's Department. Halfway through the intersection, he was hit by a 1995 Harley Davidson that was traveling eastbound on Casey and unable to stop in front of the car. The driver and passenger of the motorcycle flipped over the car, while the car spun into a third car. The unidentified motorcycle driver and his passenger were transported from the scene with serious injuries, Thompson said. Everyone else involved in the accident was treated at the scene. Ban was cited for failure to yield while turning left, failure to yield, failure to stop at a stop sign and driving without valid insurance.
Buy some mulch:
Mundelein High School's Quarterback Club, a parent group supporting the football program, will hold its fourth annual mulch sale this weekend in the school's west parking lot. The mulch will cost $3.50 a bag. The sale will run Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Children's clothing resale at Big Hollow:
Big Hollow PTO is sponsoring a spring and summer children's clothing resale. Gently used children's clothing, accessories, baby gear and multimedia will be available. The event will be in the Big Hollow Primary School gymnasium from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 17, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 18. Saturday is half-price day. The gym is at 33335 N. Fish Lake Road in Ingleside. Organizers describe it as an "eco-friendly event" that'll raise cash for Big Hollow students, while helping the community save and even earn money. As a PTO-sponsored event, proceeds from the clothing resale will help in providing educational, cultural and social opportunities for all students in and out of the classroom. Big Hollow Elementary District 38 is based in Ingleside.
