Bike safety day at McHenry Co. Fairgrounds
On Saturday, May 2, a free Family Bicycle Safety Day for all ages will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the McHenry County Fairgrounds, Route 47 and Country Club Road in Woodstock. The purpose of this event is to educate bicyclists on standard Rules of the Road, proper bike safety including use of helmet and etiquette on roads and will be presented by an officer from the McHenry Police Department. Those that can bring their own bicycles will be put through an obstacle course learning to use hand signals and following traffic signs by members of the McHenry County Bicycle Club. Learning how to repair and pump tires and to clean and lube chains are part of the bike maintenance session. A presenter will speak on types of bikes and how they are used and proper fit to the persons size. An officer from the McHenry County Conservation District will speak on family bike rides and trail ride locations for recreation. The Woodstock Rescue Squad will discuss first aid for bicycle injuries.

First 35 registrants receive a free bike helmet donated and fitted by Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
