Cary-Grove snaps losing streak

The Cary-Grove boys basketball team snapped a 5-game losing streak with a 60-58 Valley Division victory at McHenry on Friday.

Junior forward Chad McCarron scored 24 points and senior forward Brandon Coleman scored 18 for the Trojans (12-10, 1-4).

In the final minute the Trojans beat full-court pressure by McHenry (9-10, 2-3), and McCarron converted the layup to put Cary-Grove ahead 60-56. The Warriors then cut the deficit to 2 points with a basket with 5 seconds remaining.

"Then we were able to inbound the ball and pass it ahead to run out the clock," Trojans coach Ralph Schuetzle said. "It was a good win for us on the road."

Johnsburg 45, Huntley 41: Zac Boster scored 18 points to lead Huntley (12-9, 2-3) in a losing cause as the Red Raiders fell in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action. Tyler Lawrence contributed with 6 points.

Crystal Lake South 59, Woodstock 51: A 26-point effort from Steven Rogers lifted Crystal Lake South (12-9, 2-3) past Woodstock in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division play.

Wheaton Academy 63, Westminster Christian 37: Unable to generate enough offense, Westminster Christian (15-11, 6-3) dropped this Private School League meeting. Ian Dutcher scored 10 points to lead the Warrior offense. Dan Graves (9 points) contributed.
