Fox Valley weekend preview

Friday's games

St. Francis (8-12, 4-7) at St. Edward (15-10, 7-6): The Green Wave's Senior Night is also a chance for them to finish above .500 in the Suburban Catholic Conference and get some much-needed momentum going into next week's Class 2A Aurora Christian regional. St. Edward has lost 3 straight -to Montini, Driscoll and Rosary. Wave beat St. Francis 62-56 on Jan. 23 in Wheaton as senior Katie Yohn dropped 37 points on the Spartans. Yohn, who scored 39 Tuesday against Rosary, has 1,684 career points and is just 88 points shy of tying Beth Hasenmiller's school record. She's averaging 23.6 per game this season.

Streamwood (6-16, 1-5) at South Elgin (15-7, 5-3): Storm is on a 5-game winning streak and hoping to secure a winning record in the Upstate Eight. Streamwood has lost 4 straight and is looking to get back on a winning track with Elgin and Larkin coming up next week.

Neuqua Valley (9-16, 2-4) at Elgin (5-16, 2-4): A chance for the Maroons to move up a notch in Upstate Eight standings in this 6 p.m. game. Neuqua has lost 4 straight.

Larkin (2-18, 0-7) at East Aurora (7-11, 1-5): Larkin seeks that elusive first Upstate Eight win of the season when it visits the Tomcats' den.

North Boone (2-20, 0-9) at Hampshire (20-4, 8-0): Whip-Purs can celebrate Senior Night by wrapping up second straight Big Northern East title outright. Only a Monday trip to Richmond stands in way of conference perfection for Hampshire.

Burlington Central (14-11, 5-3) at Harvard (4-16, 2-6): A win would assure Rockets of at least a .500 season. Final postseason tuneup at Marengo looms next week.

Saturday's games

Geneva (23-0) at Bartlett (14-8): Bartlett hosts the Daily Herald's No. 1 team and the third ranked team in Class 4A in a 6 p.m. tipoff. "We know we'll have our work cut out for us. Geneva is an excellent team," said Bartlett coach Denise Sarna.

Marian Central (3-15) at South Elgin: A 2:30 p.m. matinee for the Storm, who will need to be on their game coming off a Friday night tussle with Streamwood.

Cary-Grove (19-5, 6-1) at Crystal Lake South (20-4, 6-1): The winner has the inside track at the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division title. South beat the Trojans 58-48 at Cary on Jan. 20.

Huntley (14-10, 6-1) at Crystal Lake Central (6-15, 1-6): Red Raiders need to keep winning if they are to have a shot at FVC Fox title. Conference leader Johnsburg visits Huntley next Tuesday.
