Lakes steps up defense

Lakes' boys basketball team used a 10-man rotation Tuesday night, and the Eagles got contributions up and down.

The result was a 63-54 win over host Carmel Catholic in nonconference action/

"This was the best defense we have played all year," Lakes coach Brian Phelan said.

John Androus had 21 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the Eagles, who moved up sophomores Nick Hibbing and Nate McMahon to deepen their bench.

Chris Boehm added 10 points, while Justin Hotle had 8 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Scott chipped in 7 points, and 3 assists; Marcell KirkmanBey had 6 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists; Andrew Flick tallied 6 points; Tyler Swindle had 5 points and 3 boards; and Jack Olson grabbed 6 rebounds.

Lakes improved to 10-12, while Carmel dropped to 5-17.

Lake Zurich 60, Libertyville 46: Connor Mooney scored a season-high 28 points, and Brandon Kunz snatched 21 rebounds, as the host Bears avenged their loss from last Friday night.

Lake Zurich (9-11, 3-7 NSC Lake) also got 15 points from Chas Evans. Kunz added 9.

Zion-Benton 69, Wauconda 31: Markus Yarbrough and Lenzelle Smith scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Zee-Bees (17-6) in the North Suburban crossover.

Matt Stonis had 15 points for Wauconda.

Streamwood 64, Grant 50: Gilbert Sheehan had 18 points for the Bulldogs in their nonconference road loss.

Grant (11-8) also received 11 points from Jerry Gaylor and 10 from Shane Richardson.
