Androus leads way as Lakes wins 'ugly'
Lakes boys basketball coach Brian Phelan called it "one of the ugliest games that has ever been played at Lakes."
It was uglier for Grant.
John Androus had 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, as Lakes pulled out a 46-40 win in North Suburban Prairie Division action Tuesday night.
Grant (11-6, 5-3) used an 8-2 run early in the third quarter to take the lead, but Lakes (8-11, 5-3) pulled even on 3-pointers by Chris Boehm and Tyler Swindle.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Eagles, as Androus, Mike Scott and Marcell KirkmanBey (8 points) led the way.
AJ Spohr (13 points) and Gilbert Sheehan (10) scored in double figures for Grant.
Lake Forest 51, Round Lake 40: The Panthers played tough against the North Suburban Lake Division leaders.
Matt Vogrich led Lake Forest (15-3) with 16 points in the conference crossover.
Round Lake (3-17) received 13 points from John Martinez, 12 from Juddon Carter and 6 from sophomore call-up Nick Reiter.
"Overall, we played very well," Panthers coach Howard Kravets said. "I think we got a lot of respect from a very, very good team."
Round Lake starters David Windham and Jake Paulsen did not play due to a violation of team rules. Kravets said both players are serving two-game suspensions.
Lake Zurich 52, Mundelein 44: Connor Mooney scored 19 points, as the Bears snapped a three-game losing streak.
Brandon Kunz had 15 points and 8 rebounds for Lake Zurich (8-10, 2-6).
Girls basketball
Grayslake Central 59, Prairie Ridge 44: Katelynn Putkonen scored 12 points for the visiting Rams in the Fox Valley Fox Division game.
Grayslake Central (12-8, 3-2) also received 10 points apiece from Maddy Miller and Kat Dickson.
CL Central 51, Grayslake North 41: The Knights lost in Fox Valley Fox action, despite Lauren Erickson's 16 points and 9 rebounds.
Libertyville 36, Carmel 30: Hannah Walton had 10 points and Kristy Williams 9 for the Wildcats in the nonconference game.
Libertyville (14-9) outscored Carmel 13-9) 11-3 in the fourth quarter.
The Corsairs were led by Lauren Lehocky and Tiffany Hendrickson with 10 and 9 points, respectively.
