Boys basketball: Fox Valley weekend

Today

Big Northern East

Richmond-Burton (9-7, 2-0) at Hampshire (8-6, 2-0), 7 p.m.: The Whip-Purs try to grab sole possession of first place against the streaking Rockets, winners of four straight. Hampshire has won three in a row.

Burlington Central (6-6, 1-1) at North Boone (6-7, 1-1), 7 p.m.: A win would guarantee the Rockets a share of second place heading into Saturday's rivalry game on Pack the Place night against rival Hampshire.

Upstate Eight

U-46 postponed: Elgin Area School District U-46 cancelled classes for today due to the cold weather. U-46 is a no school, no play district thus games scheduled between Streamwood and Lake Park, South Elgin and Elgin, and Bartlett and Larkin will not be played tonight and will be rescheduled.

Suburban Catholic

St. Edward (6-10, 2-4) at Marian Central (7-10, 1-4): This game was also postponed when Marian Central cancelled classes for today on Thursday night.

Private School League

Chicago Christian (7-7, 1-2) at Westminster Christian (9-5, 1-2), 7:30 p.m.: The Warriors have a reliable inside-outside game with junior guard Ryan Beachler (9.5 ppg.) and 6-foot-7 sophomore center Ian Dutcher (8.2 ppg., 5.5 rpg.).

Elgin Academy (2-10, 0-1) at Latin School (4-8, 2-1), 6:30 p.m.: Hilltoppers hoping to end three-game skid in Chicago.

Saturday

Nonconference

Jacobs (13-2) vs. Schaumburg (14-2) at the Sears Centre, 6:30 p. m: The Golden Eagles put their 11-game winning streak on the line against the Saxons in the middle game of the 14th annual High School Hoops Showdown. Schaumburg star Cully Payne sat out Thursday's win over Hoffman Estates and was scheduled to have a bone scan on his back today.

Elgin at Rockford Jefferson (13-2), 7:30 p.m.: Second straight weekend trip west for the Maroons. J-Hawks are led by Jordan Kerley (13.3 ppg.) and Mershon Wilkes (12.5)

Wheaton North (5-8) at Bartlett, 7:30 p.m.: A nonconference test caps back-to-back games for the Hawks. The Falcons will be coming off tonight's DuPage Valley game at West Aurora.

DeKalb (8-6) at Larkin, 6 p.m.: Larkin's usual height disadvantage gets an extreme test against 6-11 DeKalb junior center Jordan Threloff.

South Elgin at Maine East (11-4), 7:30 p.m.: A tough nonconference game on the road for the Storm after an unexpected nigh off tonight.

Westminster Christian at IMSA (1-7), 6:30 p.m.: All equations add up to a comfortable road win for the Warriors in nonconference play.

Big Northern-East

Hampshire at Burlington Central, 7:30 p.m.: It's "Pack the Place" night in Burlington. These rivals will play again in two weeks at Hampshire.

Fox Valley Conference crossovers

Dundee-Crown (9-3) at Grayslake Central (9-6) 7 p.m.: Last crossover test for the Chargers before Valley Division play begins on Wednesday.

Crystal Lake South (9-6) at Prairie Ridge (9-6), 7 p.m.: Gators not intimidated on the road; they've already posted road wins at Grayslake Central and Bartlett in 2009.

Cary-Grove (10-5) at Crystal Lake Central (3-13), 7 p.m.: Trojans have won three straight by holding opponents to 34.3 ppg. Offensively challenged Tigers averaging 44.7 ppg.

McHenry (7-6) at Huntley (9-6), 7 p.m.: The Red Raiders will attempt to make it three straight in a home date against the Warriors. McHenry is coming off a 9-point win at Grant on Tuesday.

Suburban Catholic

Immaculate Conception (12-6, 3-4) at St. Edward, 7:30 p.m.: IC won the Dec. 6 meeting 60-44 in Elmhurst.
