Huntley nips CL South
Huntley's boys basketball team played a stellar defensive game Tuesday night and came away with a hard-fought 43-41 win over Crystal Lake South in a Fox Valley Conference crossover at Huntley.
Brett DePorter led the balanced attack for the Red Raiders (4-1) with 10 points. Tyler Brunschon added 9.
"We did a terrific job defensively especially on their two strong players," said Huntley coach Marty Manning.
Steven Rogers scored a team-high 13 points for the Gators.
FW Parker 60, Elgin Academy 54: Opening Independent School League play, the Hilltoppers (1-6, 0-1) fell just short to FW Parker.Despite the loss Jivon McDonald was able to post a team-high 25 points sinking three 3-pointers. Aaron Thomas also contributed 10 points and Paul Leonardis had 8 points.
" We just gave it away. We were up by 12 points and then defensively we broke down during the second half," EA coach Everette Stephens said.
Cary-Grove 51, Johnsburg 39: The Trojans broke out to a 31-18 halftime lead and downed Johnsburg in a Fox Valley Conference crossover. Leading scorers for Cary-Grove were Chris Swenson, Chad McCarron and Matt Nelsen, who each posted 13 points.
