Briefs: Teen stutterers meeting
The National Stuttering Association's Teens Who Stutter group will meet at 7 p.m. today, Dec. 5, at Glenbard North High School, 990 N. Kuhn Road, Carol Stream. The group is open to teens from across the area and National Stuttering Association officer Paul Bittorf leads the student group. A concurrent parent session also will be offered. Basketball tournament signup
Teams of middle school students have until Dec. 15 to register for Fox Valley Park District's Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament. The tourney, to be held Jan. 2-4, will feature up to eight teams per division with a pool-play format. Each team is guaranteed at least three games. The fee is $240 per team. Applications available
Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club is accepting applications for scholarships for students planning to attend a university, college or vocational school. The club will award four $500 scholarships, one for each high school in Naperville Unit District 203 and Indian Prairie Unit District 2004. Addison raises $60,000
Addison's 13th annual Mayor's Community Charity Ball raised about $60,000 to benefit 22 community organizations, topping last year's total of $39,000. Organizations receiving donations will accept the donations at the village board meeting at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at village hall, 1 Friendship Plaza. Organizations that will benefit include: Addison Chamber of Commerce and Industry; American Association of University Women: Addison Chapter; Addison Center for the Arts; Addison Trail Music Boosters; Addison Trail Theater Boosters; Concord Lutheran School; Helping Hand Sertoma Club; Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association; Rotary Club; Kiwanis Club; Knights of Columbus; Lions Club; and Woman's Club.
Preschool registration starts
Indian Prairie Unit District 204's Prairie Children Preschool is accepting early registration through Dec. 18 for the 2009-10 school year for current students and alumni. Alumni families may pick up a registration packet at the school, 780 Shoreline Drive, Aurora. Current families will receive registration forms through their child at school. Registration for non-almuni families begins Jan. 8; registration forms postmarked before that date will be returned. Forms are available at the school office or at www.ipsd.org.
