Martino leads undefeated Wauconda to championship
Jaime Weber is off to a great start as head coach of her high school alma mater.
Weber's Wauconda Bulldogs won the Marian Central tournament championship thanks to a 58-40 win over Richmond-Burton on Tuesday night.
Kate Martino led Wauconda (4-0, 3-0) with 23 points. Lauren Mead and Roslyn Summerville added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Grayslake Central 69, Marian Central 50: At Marian Central, Megan LeBaron scored 19 points and the Rams had three other players score in double figures in their tournament finale.
Katelynn Putkonen added 14 points for Grayslake Central (2-1, 2-1), while Alison Metzger and Kat Dickson each had 10.
The Rams led 20-11 after one quarter and 45-26 at halftime.
"We got a lot of points off our press and fastbreak," coach Roger Lass said.
Grant 49, Zion-Benton 42: At Deerfield, Gina Cellucci (three 3-pointers) and Heather Chapman each scored 12 points for the Bulldogs.
Grant resumes the tournament today with a 6 p.m. game against Lake Forest.
Rosary 67, Antioch 46: At Geneva, freshman Lindsey Gofron continued her strong play, scoring a team-high 15 points in the loss to the undefeated Royals.
Antioch (1-2), which resumes the tournament Friday with a 10 a.m game against Elgin, also received 11 points from Allie Anttila.
Women's basketball
Highland 70, Lake County 54: Yeh-Eun Jin had 13 points for the College of Lake County in its loss.
CLC (2-3) also received 12 points and 6 rebounds from Megan Wozniak.
