Historical society to host quilt program
One of the McHenry County Historical Society's most well-attended public programs is its annual quilt program scheduled from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the society's museum, 6422 Main St., Union. The museum doors open at 1 p.m. Members will be admitted free. Admission for others is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors, age 60 and older.
This year' program will be presented by Maureen Mikyska of Marengo. Though not a quilter herself, Maureen was lucky enough to acquire quilts from both her and her husband's families. The earliest of these inherited quilts dates to 1901. As we see these family treasures, we'll also learn about the women who made them.
Members of the audience are invited to bring quilts for an informal show and tell following the program. At 3:30 p.m. the drawing will be made for this year's raffle quilt named "Delectable Mountains." The raffle quilts are hand quilted by the Historical Society "Heritage Quilters." Every quilt comes with a history and dedication. This year the dedication is to Carol Sek of McHenry, a long time member of the Heritage Quilters.
Quilt tickets are still available at the museum for $1 each or six for $5. The Delectable Mountains quilt is pictured on the Web site at mchsonline.org. For program information, Historical Society membership and/or volunteer opportunities, call (815) 923-2267.
