Jacobs turns away D-C; Larkin stays unbeaten

After Dundee-Crown exploded for 6 goals Tuesday night against Cary-Grove Tuesday, Jacobs coach Jim Dzialo realized only a great defensive effort could contain the D-C scoring machine.

Dzialo received the effort he was looking for.

Allowing only 1 goal on a defensive misplay, the Golden Eagles scored 3 unanswered goals in posting a 3-1 over District 300 rival Dundee-Crown in a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division boys soccer game in Algonquin Thursday night.

Dzialo singled out Johnathan Ward, Greg Witt and Matt Ehrhardt for their stellar defensive play for the Golden Eagles.

"Ward, Witt and Ehrhardt were outstanding," said Dzialo. "They shut down Dundee-Crown's offense and played tough. They are tough kids and they were in the right place all night. We had a good defensive plan and kids really executed it well. It was a solid defensive effort."

After a scoreless first half, D-C scored with only a minute elapsed in the second half. The Chargers were able to take advantage of a Jacobs miscue when Roger Bravo scored off an assist from Ricardo Carillo.

The D-C goal seemed to wake up the Golden Eagles. With Jonathan Kowalski scoring twice and Luis Cabral once, Jacobs scored 3 unanswered goals in an 8-minute span off D-C goalkeeper Josh Cook.

"We were disappointed when Dundee-rown scored that first goal," said Kowalski. "The first goal was kind of lucky. I was in the right place at the right time. On the second goal, I had a good shot on goal."

Jacobs outshot Dundee-Crown 10-4.

"We didn't get enough shots in the first half, " said Dzialo. "We made some offensive adjustments and were able to generate some more off offense."

Jacobs goalie Danny Trevor made 2 saves, one an outstanding diving stab of a shot by Bravo 18 minutes into the game.

Dundee-Crown coach Rey Vargas wasn't pleased with his team's performance.

"We came out on fire in the second half and got the early goal," said Vargas. "Then we fell apart and stopped playing. We kept playing the ball long. I was very disappointed in the way we played the second half. Give Jacobs credit. They played better than us."
