Chargers pull off upset of Trojans

The Dundee-Crown offense exploded against Cary-Grove (9-1, 3-1) delivering the Trojans their first boys soccer loss of the season Tuesday in a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division game at the D-C Bowl.

For the Chargers (5-6, 3-1), Ricardo Carrillo led the way scoring 2 goals and assisting one. Ovi Boeriu, Tony Meza, Wyatt Vucic and Roger Bravo each added goals, while assists came from Tom Hanley, Casey Vickstrom, Julio Salas and Meza.

"I asked the guys to play with intensity and with passion and they did that," said D-C coach Rey Vargas. "They kept bringing the pressure."

Josh Cook (6 saves) and Eddie Fuentes (2 saves) shared time in the net for D-C, while Ben Alleva (1 save) was in goal for the Trojans. John Oberlies scored both C-G goals, assisted once by Phil Hansen.

Boys soccer

St. Francis 4, St. Edward 1: John Currie scored the lone goal for St. Edward (2-9-1, 1-1) in this Suburban Catholic Conference loss, assisted by Lucas Belcher. Jim Cholewa defended the net recording 8 saves.

Huntley 2, Prairie Ridge 1: Sean Tlapek scored his first goal of the season in overtime to lift Huntley (4-2-2, 3-1) past Prairie Ridge for this Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win. Kyle Lewandowski scored for the Red Raiders in regulation assisted by Nico Carbonara, who also assisted on the game-winner. Kevin Montelongo (17 saves) was in goal for Huntley, while Cole Geisel (5 saves) and A.J. Sturm (3 saves) shared time for the Wolves.

Timothy Christian 2, Westminster Christian 1: Ryan Beachler found Dan Graves for Westminster Christian's only goal as the Warriors fell to Timothy in Private School League play. Scott Saturik collected 10 saves in goal for the Warriors (4-5-1).

Larkin 2, East Aurora 1: Raul Sandoval got Larkin (9-0, 1-0) on the board off a dish by Mike Gloss, while Danny HInterlong nailed the game-winner, assisted by Michael Berequin, as the Royals opened Upstate Eight Conference action with a win. John Meidel was in goal for the first time recording 3 saves.

Elgin Academy 8, Harvest Christian 2: Each with a hat trick, Jonathan Neuman and Connor Flexman combined for 6 goals to lead Elgin Academy (2-5) to this nonconference victory. In goal, Tom Tunca recorded 6 saves.

Streamwood 5, Elgin 2: Taking a 4-1 first half lead behind a Lenin Beltran hat trick, Streamwood (9-2-2, 2-0) held on for this Upstate Eight Conference win. Matt Rasinski and Ulises Manjarez each added single knocks, and in a complete team effort, Alex Aranda, Roma Patino, Oscar Campos and Rasinski contributed with assists. Edgar Leyva was in goal for the Sabres racking up 5 saves. Elgin (2-9, 0-2) saw goals from Christian Pereda (unassisted) and Raul Hernandez with an Alberto Quintana assist. Osiel Ravadan (5 saves) and Nikel Satish (6 saves) shared time in goal.

South Elgin 4, Bartlett 2: Trailing 2-1 at the half, South Elgin (4-7-1) pounded out 3 late goals to overcome Bartlett (5-5) in Upstate Eight Conference competition. Bart Mazurek got the Storm on the board off a pass from Mike Alfini. In the second half, Ernesto Caballero scored a pair of unassisted goals, and Onyx Gonzalez scored assisted by Dan Bolin. Ryan Hicks was in the net for South Elgin blocking 7 shots, while Jeff Gal (7 saves) matched him in goal for Bartlett. The Hawks' goals were scored by Eric Hasenbeck (Garett Dini assist) and Dini assisted by Mike Kochanski.

Crystal Lake South 2, Jacobs 1: Jacobs (4-4-3, 1-2) got on top of this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division meeting early with an outstanding goal by Brian Obmalay, who found the back of the net off a Luis Cabral pass. However, Crystal Lake South countered in the second half when Adam Gatza found the net unassisted. Knotted at 1-1 after regulation, both teams would battle through a pair of overtimes before South would win the shootout 4-2 giving the Gators (6-6-1, 4-1) the 2-1 victory. Jordan Innis, Ryan Knutson, Kevin Novak and Brian Schuda each scored in the shootout while Zach Dalzell (9 saves) blocked a Jacobs attempt to clinch the lead. For Jacobs, Colin Fiebig and Cabral scored.

Men's soccer

ECC 2, Moraine Valley 1: Taking a 1-0 lead into the half, Elgin Community College never looked back en route to this 2-1 ISCC victory. Jose Lopez and Taylor Bond each scored for the Spartans (3-2, 2-2) both assisted by Joel Perez. In goal, Vince DiNuzzo recorded 8 saves.
