Briefs: Dist. 10 board member named

Itasca School District 10 has appointed Dan Kolar to fill a vacancy on the board. He will take the official oath of office at the October school board meeting. The vacant seat that Kolar will fill is up for election in April 2009. Kolar's experience includes project management, general management, budgeting and employee relations, officials said. His three children were educated in District 10 schools.

New parks commissioner

Jim Jones has replaced Donna McCormack's seat on the West Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners. Jones served on the board for two terms, from 1993 through 2005. McCormack resigned because she moved from the area. Jones' appointment is through April 2009.

Catholic high school showcase

Parents of middle school students are invited to learn more about area Catholic high schools during the Catholic High Schools Showcase from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the St. Pius X Social Center, 601 S. Westmore Road in Lombard. Representatives from schools, including Montini, Driscoll and St. Francis, will be available to answer questions and provide information about their schools. Nominate Lake Park alumni

The Lake Park High School Educational Foundation is seeking nominations for the 2009 Lake Park High School Distinguished Alumni Award. The program honors Lake Park graduates and former students who have brought credit to themselves and their alma mater by virtue of extraordinary achievements in academic, artistic, business, literary, professional, public service, scientific or other endeavors. Any alumni who graduated at least 10 years ago may be nominated, as well as individuals who attend the school for at least two years. To nominate someone, call (630) 295-5401. Nomination forms are available at lphs.org. The deadline for nominations is Oct. 31.

GED and career training

The Early School Leaver Program is accepting applications for its spring 2009 semester, which begins in mid-January. Informational meetings are planned for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 15, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10 in suites E and F in the Technology Center of DuPage, 301 S. Swift Road, Addison.
