Briefs: Roselle Cruise Night tonight

Everett Dean and the Hip Noz will perform Friday beginning at 6 p.m. during Roselle's Cruise Night, located at 35 E. Main St. in Roselle. The car show will last until 9 p.m.

Bank robber sought

Authorities were continuing to search for a man who robbed a Villa Park bank.

The robbery happened about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Inland Bank, 305 W. St. Charles Road. The suspect was described as his being in his mid-20s, standing 6 feet tall, and having a thin to medium build. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a baseball cap and a white T-shirt with long sleeves, FBI spokeswoman Cynthia Yates said. Villa Park police and the FBI are investigating. If anyone has information about the heist, they're encouraged to call Villa Park detectives at (630) 834-7447.

Park commissioner resigns

West Chicago Park District is seeking applicants for an open seat for its board of commissioners after Donna McCormack resigned. McCormack is moving out of the district. The seat is a one-year term from Sept. 9 to April 2009. Interested applicants who live in the district should submit a letter of intent to the attention of Gary Major by Aug. 22. Army band to perform

The 144th Army Band Illinois National Guard will perform at 7 p.m. Friday at the band shell in Memorial Park, 208 W. Union Ave., Wheaton. The evening's entertainment will be led by Christopher Jones, commander and conductor. For details, call Margie Wilhemi at (630) 510-4984.

Utility pole damaged

A utility pole was damaged Wednesday afternoon in Glen Ellyn when an electrical wire was snagged by a passing semitrailer truck. The incident happened at Oak Street and Kenilworth Avenue. Police said the pole snapped at its base, causing the pole to fall over onto the truck.

No change in mall policy

Pace bus riders heading to Yorktown Center must continue to disembark outside the Lombard mall property along Highland Avenue and Butterfield Road - for now. Yorktown officials say some progress was made during a meeting this week between themselves, village officials and Pace representatives. Jim Romano, the mall's manager, said Yorktown will allow buses back on the property once Pace finds a solution for the problem of buses idling in the parking lot. A Pace spokesman said the suburban bus agency is reviewing its operations to find a solution.

Vandals hit Naperville

Naperville Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of vandals responsible for damaging at least 10 mailboxes this week in the 3200 block of Lapp Lane and 3800 block of Looking Post Court. Police said vandals either tore mailboxes off their posts or broke the posts. Anyone with information is asked to call (630) 420-6006. Callers can remain anonymous.

Safety checks

Bensenville police will be conducting a roadside checkpoint Friday near George Street and County Line Road. Motorists will be checked for driver's licenses and proof of insurance. This will be the police department's 19th safety check this year.

Lake Park Tag Day is Saturday

The Lake Park High School marching band will conduct its annual Tag Day fundraiser from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Band members accompanied by adults will walk door-to-door, with an adult, throughout communities served by the district asking for monetary donations to help band operations as one of their main fundraisers for the year.
