Open house at Peterson Farm
The Landmark Commission of the City of McHenry will sponsor "A Day at the Petersen Farm," from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 29.
Honoring our agricultural heritage, exhibits include farm equipment, farm ani-mals and a demonstration garden. Visitors will see demonstrations of canning, pie baking, quilting and the making of cornhusk dolls. A weaver will show the opera-tion of a treadle machine.
Square dancers and blue-grass music will entertain. There will be barn tours and hay rides throughout the day. The McHenry Public Library will have a book display and stories for children.
There is no charge for admission. A food wagon will be available with refreshments. Families are invited to bring the children and enjoy this look at farm life in years past.
The farm is on McCullom Lake Road, one mile west of Route 31. For details, call (815) 385-0191.
The city-owned Petersen Farm, along with its out-buildings and oak savannah, is being developed as an agricultural museum and resource center for McHenry residents. It promotes tour-ism and preserves the flavor of life in McHenry County in the mid 1800s.
The City's Landmark Commission helps enforce the historic preservation ordinance and offers education, guidance and technical as-sistance to building restoration efforts by McHenry property owners.
