Andresen hits ninth homer in Downers Grove South's 8-0 win

Brooke Andresen hit her ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth inning, in Downers Grove South's 8-0 win over Oak Park-River Forest at the Downers Grove South Invite.

Andresen went 3-for-4 with 3 runs batted in. Kaelene Curry went 3-for-3 and scored 3 runs and Kayla Gull had 2 doubles and 2 RBI for the Mustangs (20-5). New Trier beat Downers Grove South 5-2 in the first game of the day.

St. Francis 9, Wheaton Academy 0:ŒJenny Eldridge homered and had 3 hits for St. Francis (10-15) in its win in West Chicago. Freshman Taylor Ronchetto (4-6) earned the victory in the pitcher's circle.

Glenbard North 2-2, Glenbard West 1-8: Shannon Hood was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh in the first game, giving the Panthers (14-9) the go-ahead run. Hannah Santora (12-5) struck out five and Alyssa Jasinski hit a solo home run for Glenbard North. Melissa Rauch slugged a 3-run home run and Jessica Flammini a 2-run shot for Glenbard West (16-5) in the second game.

Wheaton Warrenville South 8, Waubonsie Valley 5: Meaghan Sullivan drove in 3 runs and Ashley DiLeonardi scored 3 runs for the Tigers (15-11). Ally Seplak had 3 RBI for Waubonsie Valley (6-17).

Glenbard South 6-17, Oswego 1-1: Kristin Grossman homered and Robin Borowski (7-3) threw a five-inning no-hitter in the second game for the Raiders (21-5). In the opener Emily Braem went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and 2 RBI.

Glenbard East 9-6, Addison Trail 2-5: Paige Gerstner had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs and Molly Shannon, Alyssa Gianatasio and Michaela Stranski all had 2 hits and 2 RBI for Glenbard East in the opener. Gerstner scored 3 runs and had an RBI and Nikki Fairbairn went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Rams (13-14-2) in the second game.

Lisle Invitational: Jackie Todd went 2-for-3 with a run scored and struck out eight, and Liz Todd went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored for Lisle in a 10-0 win over Reed-Custer. Earlier the Lions (4-19) lost to Dakota 11-1.

Niles West Invite: Ashley Turacek cracked a grand slam in a 14-run second inning for Montini in a 16-0 win over Von Steuben at the Niles West Invite. Montini (8-10) lost to Maine South 2-1 in its second game.

Benet 2-0, Marist 1-2:ŒIn the first game of the East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader, Meghan Keating scored the game-winning run from second base in the top of the seventh inning on a single by Clair Geyer. Geyer was 2-for-2 with a run scored also. Pitcher Meghan Eastman (10-8) got the win for Benet (16-13, 10-7) in the opener, then took the loss in Game 2 as both Marist runs were unearned.

Baseball

West Chicago 7-8, Wheaton North 2-7:ŒThe Wildcats (9-13, 7-11) swept the three-game series with the Falcons (18-10, 12-6) to slice their lead to one game atop the DuPage Valley Conference standings.

Game 2 winning pitcher Matt Youngwith (1-0) had 3 hits in the opener along with Dave Sampiller. Barrett Serrato had 3 hits in Game 2. Jordan Long (3-3) won the first game, which saw Wheaton North's Jack DeAno go 3-for-4.

Glenbard East 3-4, Naperville North 2-12:ŒSteve Dujka's fifth-inning RBI double scored the game-winner in the opener for Glenbard East (8-19, 6-12), a game won on the mound by Billy Buchdahl (3-3). Naperville North (19-9, 11-7) earned the DuPage Valley Conference split behind Jake Naumann's seventh win and Elliot Ganet's 3-run homer.

Glenbard North 3-6, West Aurora 2-1:ŒThe Panthers (10-10, 10-8) swept to stay in contention for the DuPage Valley Conference title. Steve Cocat was the complete-game winner in the opener. Evan Watkins and Jim Montgomery drove in a pair of run in Game 2 while Zac Zaranko won on the mound.

Larkin 5-3, Neuqua Valley 4-18:ŒIan Krol and Travis Weldon each had 4 hits and combined for 7 RBI in Game 2 as the Wildcats (24-4, 18-2) split in the Upstate Eight Conference. Jason David (5-1) pitched 6 innings for the win.

Waubonsie Valley 3-14, East Aurora 0-0:ŒAdam LeRoy (2-3) and Keith Harris (1-1) each threw 1-hitters for the Warriors (12-14, 9-9) in their Upstate Eight Conference sweep. LeRoy and Brad Custer had 3 hits apiece in the opener.

Leyden 9-2, Willowbrook 1-3:ŒThe Warriors (16-14, 9-8) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the Game 2 West Suburban Gold victory. Dean Whiteside's sacrifice fly drove in the game-winner. Nick Cuzzone (3-4) struck out seven and walked none in a complete-game effort.

Downers South 6-2, Hinsdale South 3-3:ŒJoe Luft (5-1) won the opener for the Mustangs (24-7, 13-4), and Joe Begel came back to win the second West Suburban Gold Conference game for the Hornets (15-12, 12-5).

Addison Trail 7-1, Proviso East 1-4:ŒMatt Haas was the winning pitcher for the Blazers (4-25, 2-15) in the opening game of the West Suburban Gold Conference doubleheader.

Driscoll 5-7, Reed-Custer 0-1:ŒSophomore Austin Hennessey (1-0) fired a 3-hitter in his first varsity start to win the opener. Adam Davis doubled and homered for the Highlanders (19-8). Mark Doroba (3-0) pitched 5 innings in Game 2 and had a pair of hits as Driscoll swept the nonconference doubleheader. Rick Divito and Pierre Washington-Steele also had 2 hits.

Montini 2, Aurora Central 0:ŒAndrew Brauer (4-2) pitched a 1-hitter with 12 strikeouts and a walk for the Broncos (14-6) in their nonconference win. Montini scored both runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the first coming home on a double play. Nick Malecki's RBI double then scored Sean Cahill.

Hinsdale Central 10, Morton 2:ŒJared White went 4-for-4 for the Red Devils (10-17) in their nonconference win. Jason Rafferty (1-0) pitched 5 innings to earn the victory.

Glenbard West 4, Glenbard South 3:ŒBrian Emanuel (2-1) earned the victory in a nonconference game between Glen Ellyn rivals played at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva. Blake O'Brien earned his third save in relief for the Hilltoppers (14-13).

Proviso West 6-1, Glenbard West 5-11:ŒJ.D. Macleary went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles in the Hilltoppers' Game 1 loss in the West Suburban Silver. Dave Martz (2-2) took the loss. Blake O'Brien (5-2) earned the victory in the second game. Peter Solowiej and Brian Emanuel each doubled in the five-inning game.

Girls soccer

Lake Park 4, Dundee-Crown 0:ŒBrittany Davies scored a pair of goals, and Julia Nelson and Yorgia Sepsakos scored one apiece for the Lancers (13-6-3).
