Postseason road looks challenging
St. Charles North and St. Charles East's girls basketball teams earned the top two seeds in the Class 4A Larkin regional, while Batavia and Geneva are part of a loaded Class 4A Lake Park sectional.
The IHSA will announce pairings today.
The Larkin regional is one of four in the Rockton Hononegah sectional. If the seeds hold true and the No. 1 teams advance, St. Charles North (17-4) will be joined in the sectional by Rockton Hononegah, Jacobs and Cary-Grove. Hononegah and Cary-Grove both received 7 votes in the latest Class 4A poll.
That same poll has Fenwick (20-5) ranked No. 7 and Schaumburg (19-2) ranked No. 10. Those are the top two seeds in the sectional Geneva and Batavia are headed to at Lake Park. The Bulldogs (17-3) are seeded seventh and the 16-5 Vikings 10th.
West Aurora, now 16-6 after Thursday night's win over Naperville North, will be one of the hottest teams in the Neuqua Valley sectional. The Blackhawks are seeded fifth behind Hinsdale Central, Bolingbrook, Waubonsie Valley and Wheaton Warrenville South.
Bolingbrook (16-3) and Hinsdale Central (22-1) are ranked No. 4 and No. 6, respectively, in the state's Class 4A poll.
Rosary (17-5) will try to make a run in Class 3A. The Royals, in second place in the Suburban Catholic Conference, are seeded first in the Yorkville regional ahead of Oswego, Sandwich, Yorkville and IMSA.
The winner of the Yorkville regional feeds into the Rochelle sectional, which also includes the winner of the Kaneland regional. Huntley is the No. 1 seed in that regional followed by Burlington Central, host Kaneland, Sycamore and Aurora Central.
Other No. 1 seeds in that sectional are Rock Falls and Rockford Lutheran. Rock Falls is 17-2 and ranked No. 6 in the state's Class 3A poll.
