• National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child is today through Friday. Individuals and groups can fill a shoe box or multiple shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, necessity items, candy and a letter of encouragement that will be delivered to suffering children around the world for Christmas. • A Registered Spot Celebration, in honor of the children's book character Spot the dog, will be part of the Children's Book Week festivities from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Itasca Community Library, 500 W. • Deadline to register for the field trip to The Nutcracker on Horseback performance in Chicago is Thursday. The Noble Horse Theatre is the only theater in North America that performs the historic Tchaikovsky ballet on horseback. The field trip leaves at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20 from Thorndale Recreation Center, 22W130 Thorndale Ave., Medinah, and grandparents are encouraged to attend with their grandkids. Cost is $25 for adults, $15 for children who are Roselle park district residents; $35 for adults and $20 for children for others.
