ECC police to join in South Elgin 'Cop on Top' benefit May 18

The Elgin Community College Police Department will be joining the South Elgin Police Department to participate in the annual "Cop on Top"' fundraiser.

On Friday, May 18, ECC Police will be at the Dunkin' Donuts at 405 N. McLean Blvd. in South Elgin, from 6 to 11 a.m., accepting donations for the Special Olympics of Illinois.

This is the first year that ECC Police has been involved in the fundraiser. ECC Chief of Police David Kintz will be on the rooftop.

"Nationwide, law enforcement has been supporting Special Olympics for many years," Kintz said. "The ECC Police Department is excited to partner with the South Elgin Police Department for 'Cop on Top.' This is a great way for our officers to give back to our local community and support the athletes."

Cash and check donations will also be accepted at the ECC Police Department in Building D, Room D140 of 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, until 5 p.m. on Friday, May 18. Special t-shirts and hats will be available for purchase for $15. All proceeds will be donated to the Special Olympics of Illinois.

The annual "Cop on Top" fundraiser was started in Illinois in 2002. Since then, more than $3.9 million has been raised for the Special Olympics of Illinois.
