Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital named a top Illinois hospital

DOWNERS GROVE - U.S. News & World Report announced this week that Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital is one of the top hospitals in the state of Illinois.

Good Samaritan, located in Downers Grove, Ill., was placed 10th in the state in the U.S. News & World Report's 2017-2018 Best Hospitals list. The hospital was joined by six other Advocate hospitals ranked among the top 25 in the state.

The agency also named it the number nine hospital in the Chicago metro area.

"These new rankings recognize the commitment and passion of our physicians, nurses and associates, and that they are making a real difference in the health outcomes of our patients," said Dave Fox, President of Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. "We continue to make good on the Advocate promise that we are first and foremost a safe, clinical enterprise."

The report specifically commended the hospital's gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology departments, as well as its heart bypass, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, chronic pulmonary disease treatment and hip replacement surgeries.

The highest finisher in the Advocate system was Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, named fourth in both Illinois and the Chicago metro area. Other Advocate hospitals honored with a Top Hospital recognition include Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge; Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin; Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago and Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings, now in its 28th year, evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide and are designed to help patients make informed decisions about where to receive care. The methodologies include readmission rates, patient experience and safety, quality of nursing care and other care-related indicators.
