Elgin church to open for Illinois Solar Tour Oct. 1

Explore solar in Elgin! The Illinois Solar Energy Association will host the 10th annual Illinois Solar Tour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.

As a part of the National Solar Tour, more than 100 solar-savvy home and business owners throughout the state will open their doors to show off their solar.

This free open house type event allows attendees to view real-life examples of how their neighbors are harnessing the sun's energy to generate power, heat, and slash monthly utility bills.

This self-guided tour has attracted more than a thousand people across Illinois in recent years. The tour provides participants a direct perspective on the costs, processes, as well as the economic and environmental benefits of going solar.

Included on this year's tour is the rooftop solar installations at Unitarian Universalist Church of Elgin, 39W830 Highland Ave.

Learn how the church is utilizing solar energy to produce electricity and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

Established in 1975, the Illinois Solar Energy Association is a nonprofit organization that promotes the widespread application of renewable energy through education and advocacy.
