Black Diamond Charities donates backpacks

Black Diamond Charities' "Backpack Stuffing Day," hosted by SpringHill Suites, Lincolnshire, was a success.

Volunteers arrived to fill 1,100 backpacks filled with 16 types of school supplies. SpringHill Suites, Lincolnshire, along with American Hotel Register Company, Vernon Hills, provided pens and individual toiletry bags for each backpack.

Joe Duea of Thrivent Financial provided encouragement cards for each child. Pencils were donated by Illinois Bone & Joint.

To date, Black Diamond Charities has provided 7,300 backpacks to homeless children in Lake, McHenry, Cook, DuPage, Kane and Will counties, as well as the children of military personnel at Naval Station Great Lakes.

With 70,000 registered homeless children in Illinois, Black Diamond Charities works to keep them on a path to learn.
