Make 'Lanterns of Ramadan' Friday at Elgin museum

Learn about the "Lanterns of Ramadan" from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 10, at the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd. on Elgin's east side.

This year, Ramadan began on June 17. It is a month of fasting and celebration for Muslim people around the world. In Egypt, the cultural tradition is to light up the night with beautiful lanterns during the month of Ramadan.

Join the Elgin Public Museum for this family event to learn about the tradition and create your own paper lantern.
