Chamber Music on the Fox wraps up season May 30

On Saturday, May 30, Chamber Music on the Fox will present a matinee and an evening performance of their season finale, "L'Histoire du Soldat," at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Elgin Art Showcase, in the Professional Building, 164 Division St., eighth floor, Elgin.

The program will begin with "Reaper," a world premiere by Chicago area composer Steven Ingle, which will be followed by Michael Daugherty's "Dead Elvis," a theatrical piece for solo bassoon and small ensemble.

The Daugherty piece will feature the Lyric Opera Orchestra's Lewis Kirk as an Elvis-impersonating bassoon soloist.

Igor Stravinsky's great wartime classic, "L'Histoire du Soldat" ("A Soldier's Tale"), will fill the second half of the program.

Originally written for seven musicians, dancers, and narrator, the piece will feature dancers from Veritydance performing original choreography by Elgin Ties Dance Festival co-founder Sara Krikau. The Elgin Symphony Orchestra's own Andrew Grams will narrate the tale of a soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil.

There is a suggested $20 donation or $10 for students, available at the door with an ID. Visit www.sidestreetstudioarts.org or www.chambermusiconthefox.org.
