Women In Management Fox Valley presents "Transformational Leadership"

Women in Management Fox Valley presents "Transformational Leadership" with Linda Deering, president of Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, at the WIM Fox Valley meeting on Thursday, Dec. 11.

The luncheon is sponsored by the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and member Cheryl Wendt. It will be held at the Elgin Country Club, 2575 Weld Road, Elgin. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m., with the luncheon and program at noon. Meetings adjourn promptly at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $22 for members or $25 for nonmembers. Area women business owners and managers are welcome to attend this month's presentation. Reservations must be made for attendance online at www.wimfoxvalley.org.

In her topic of "Transformational Leadership," Deering will present how leadership makes all the difference to the team and business success, including the pursuit of great and talented leadership as a lifelong journey. The topic will also cover how effective leadership requires a great attitude and character with needed skills; ongoing leadership training, skill development and behavior change for success; transparency; and the necessity for goals, targets and measure of success.

Deering brings more than 35 years of experience as a health care leader to this new role she assumed on Jan. 1, 2014. Since 2006, she has served as Sherman's chief operating officer. Under her leadership, the hospital has achieved and maintained top decile results in patient, physician and associate satisfaction, and health outcomes. During her tenure, Sherman also achieved the ILPEX Silver Award for Performance Excellence and Magnet designation, among numerous other national awards and accolades.

Prior to her work at Sherman, Deering served as the vice president of patient services, chief nursing officer and chief clinical officer at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva. She also served as executive director of patient services at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin.

Deering earned her master of science and bachelor of science degrees in nursing from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

She is a member of the American College of Health Executives and the American Organization of Executive Nurses. Deering also regularly travels the country as a professional speaker and coach for the Studer Group serving to help other health care organizations create cultures of accountability and top performance.

Mecum has been a member of WIM Fox Valley since 1997. A retired professional, she is the former Elgin City Clerk.

The WIM Fox Valley kicks off the new year with speaker Andrew Grams, music director of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, on Jan. 8, 2015.

Women in Management Fox Valley was founded in 1984. Members are comprised of business professionals in six categories: academic; corporate; entrepreneur; government; licensed, degreed professional; and nonprofit.
