RESCUE CHIHUAHUA MAKES DEBUT IN LEGALLY BLONDE!
(Des Plaines, IL)-Rufio, a Long-haired Chihuahua, was once an emaciated puppy in a no-kill shelter in Kansas. Thanks to a vet tech with a heart, the little dog was adopted and given to her friend, Jaclyn, who was working at a center for boys who were wards of the state in Colorado.. Jaclyn took great care of the little dog and named him Rufio, after the Leader of the Lost Boys in the movie "Hook."
When Jaclyn came to Evanston to start grad school, she gave Rufio to her mother, Leslie Abramson of Northbrook. It wasn't easy, since Jaclyn carried Rufio everywhere with her. "He was her little buddy," Leslie says. Leslie and her husband David were dog lovers in their own right. They already had two other dogs of mixed-breed .
"But Rufio fit right in," says Leslie. "He's very adaptable. He's moved so many times, he just roles with the punches."
When confronted by Big Noise Artistic Director Nancy Flaster about whether Rufio might want to be in a show, Leslie said, "As long as someone holds him and gives him treats, he should be fine!"
And fine he is! The cast of "Legally Blonde" loves Rufio, stage name Bruiser. And Bruiser seems to love them back. It's been quite a journey, but the little Chihuahua has found a home-in Northbrook and, it seems, on the Big Noise stage!
