Hersey tops Stevenson in second OT

It took a while, but Hersey was able to defend its home turf in Class 3A girls soccer regional championship play Friday.

The Huskies went to two overtimes, and Casey Weyhrich and Lauren Gierman found the the back of the net to propel Hersey past Stevenson 2-0. Morgan Harris earned her 12th shutout of the season for the Huskies.

Hersey advances to a Mundelein sectional semifinal date against Carmel at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Corsairs eliminated Fremd 4-3 in double OT.

• Glenbrook South ousted Palatine 2-1 Friday in the Warren regional. The Spartans meet top seed Buffalo Grove, a 4-0 winner against Mundelein, in the 4:30 p.m. Tuesday semifinal of the Mundelein sectional.

• Barrington had 3 goals in each half to win its own regional 6-0 against Lake Zurich.

Kelsey Muniz scored twice and Kate Luedtke made 3 saves to help the Fillies advance to Tuesday's 6:30 p.m. Jacobs sectional semifinal against Huntley, which rolled past McHenry 7-0 in the Rockford Guilford regional.
