Palatine, Barrington tops in tournaments

Palatine’s girls water polo team stretched its winning streak to eight and claimed the Maine East tournament title Saturday with victories over the host school plus Resurrection, St. Charles East and Chicago Latin.

Junior Rachel Chumbook had 7 goals and goalie Kim Butler stopped 12 shots in an 8-7 decision against Maine East.

Chumbook had 9 goals and sophomore Caroline Wojtas had 2 goals and 4 steals in a 12-3 win over Resurrection.

Against Latin, Chumbook and Wojtas had 3 scores each, and Caroline McHugh and Jenny Ripka had 2 apiece in a 14-4 win.

And against St. Charles East, Wojtas had 4 goals, Ashley Theis and Chumbook had 3 each and Emily Seidl had 2 in a 12-1 decision.

Barrington tournament: Mid-Suburban West leader Barrington enjoyed a 3-0 effort in the tournament it hosted to win it.

The Fillies rolled past Vernon Hills 11-3, topped Libertyville 12-7 behind a 6-goal game from senior Lisa Danhauer and handled Lake Forest 16-4 as Danhauer, Sam Gavars and Catherine Byron had 3 goals each.
