Gymnastics has a long history at Palatine Park District, dating back to the program's beginning in 1977. At that time, it was a developmental program offering classes that were taught at Fremd and Palatine high schools.
Today, the program still focuses on the developmental aspects of the sport, offering tot, preschool, beginner and intermediate classes, and is also home to the Palatine Gymnastics Club Competitive Team.
The gymnastics season begins on Aug. 27 this year, with a wide variety of programming options for boys and girls. Girls are introduced to the fundamental skills used in vault, bars, balance beam and floor exercise. Boys are introduced to vault, bars, rings, pommel horse and tumbling.
For a complete listing of classes, see the Fall park district brochure which will be mailed on July 20.
Until the new fall season begins, Gymnastics Camps are a popular option offered in the summer. Camps are designed for children who will be entering grades 2 through 8 in the fall.
Along with lots of time in the gymnastics facility located in the Community Center, camps will include swimming, crafts and games, and all campers will receive a T-shirt.
Camps will be held Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm beginning August 6 and August 13. Please note the August 13 camp week will not include swimming. Camps are $175 R/$263 NR each week. There is a two week discounted fee of $320 R/$480 NR.
