Wheaton's Gary UMC offers class on the holy lament

Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton is offering a class that examines lament in the Bible to enhance our understanding and practice of worship.

The class is offered at 10 a.m. Sundays, Jan. 15 and 22, in the church chapel. Lament is prevalent throughout scripture, yet scarcely present in American worship, which celebrates success and suppresses suffering. In this class you will recover this forgotten practice through Bible study and practical exercises.

Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St., offers 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday worship services in the sanctuary. The 9 a.m. service is complete with Kids' Church and nursery care, plus livestreaming and recorded worship at garychurch.org. The 11 a.m. Service of Word & Sacrament is an intimate and informal service. At 10 a.m., you can enjoy a coffee hour called "Special Blend" and Sunday school for all ages. With deep roots in the community since 1853, Gary Church has vibrant music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions.
