A new community dining site for seniors opens in Downers Grove Township

The DuPage Senior Citizens Council has opened Community Dining at Downers Grove Township's Senior Center. Seniors living in DuPage County are welcome to attend and dine with other local seniors for lunch.

Community Dining provides local seniors with a place to connect with one another and enjoy a meal together.

New DSCC Community Dining locations have begun to open up again since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eating together allows for seniors to improve their mood and social skills through personal connections with one another. Partnering with Downers Grove Township has provided the opportunity to reach more local seniors in and around the Downers Grove area who are interested in gathering for Community Dining.

Community Dining in Downers Grove is located at the Downers Grove Township Center at 4341 Saratoga Ave. in Downers Grove.

Lunch, provided by the senior citizens council, is served every Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon.

The meal is free for seniors aged 60 or older, although the DuPage Senior Citizens Council does ask for a suggested donation of $5 or more. Anyone under the age of 60 who attends is expected to pay the full cost of the meal.

"Downers Grove Township is proud to partner with DuPage Senior Citizens Council to offer this wonderful program to our community members," said Karen Spencer, Downers Grove Township senior services coordinator. "Come enjoy a hot, nutritious meal and socialize with others.

"We often have educational seminars and a variety of activities offered before and after meals, too," Spencer said. "There is always something exciting going on at the Downers Grove Township Center! We look forward to having more community members join us soon."

"We are so happy to finally open a dining program for seniors in Downers Grove Township," said Marylin Krolak, executive director of DuPage Senior Citizens Council.
